The Glean Team at HUUC is a group of dedicated volunteers who pick up food from local supermarkets that might otherwise go to waste and deliver it to local food banks.
Six days each week, we pick up food that might otherwise go to waste from Roche Bros. in Acton and Shaw’s in Stow and donate it to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at Devens, WHEAT Community Connections in Clinton, Transitions at Devens (a temporary shelter for women and their children), and other distribution organizations. Upon request, we have picked up extra produce from Applefield Farm in Stow, Burroughs Farm in Boxborough, and other farms and orchards in Massachusetts.
Gleaning connects us to the land around us, engages us as individuals with our local food systems, helps farms and stores manage resources, improves local access to fresh produce for those on limited incomes, and unites communities.
