Middle school & high school

Our middle school and high school youth are invited to join in any of our Sunday programming, with either younger youth or adults in worship. They also have monthly Senior High Sundays at the General Store, where they can head as a group to the Harvard General Store for conversation and a cuppa on us.

Youth will also have various age-specific events during the year and service and social justice projects.

We also offer our youth chances to develop leadership skills in helping in the classes with younger children, leading roleplaying game sessions, and serving in paid child care positions.

Middle School and High School Programs at HUUC

OWL (Our Whole Lives)

Grades 7–9

A comprehensive and inclusive sexuality education workshop series. It emphasizes values of self-worth, mutual respect, and informed decision-making as it explores human development, relationships and communication, peer pressure, consent, body image, self-care, sexual decision making, sexual health, and navigating media and pop culture.

Coming of Age

Grades 9–10

A journey during which our youth explore their own passions, their gifts, their values, and their hopes. Faith development is not about arriving at certainty, but about learning to ask deeper, better questions. Coming of Age poses the question: “Who am I? And to what do I want to give my heart?” This exploration includes gaining an adult mentor in the congregation, joining with other youth for activities, taking fun field trips, going on a retreat, playing games, and the option to end their year with a capstone project that demonstrates how they want to show up in the world.

Bridging

High school seniors

This rite of passage is a celebratory transition for high school seniors as they launch into adulthood.

There’s also a separate monthly newsletter, The Family Chalice, especially for families, with info about what’s happening for parents, teens, and kids. And we have a teen newsletter (for teens and their caregivers), Notes from The Glen, that comes out every two months.
