Psychologist once thought resilience was a fixed trait some of us had and some us didn’t. Research now shows that we are all resilient most of the time and it’s a capacity we can strengthen. Resilience is like the art of Kintsugi (golden joining) where our broken places are mended with gold lacquer. In the spirit of Black History Month, this service explores the alchemy of compassion and dignity as the gold that heals us a person and as a people. As Harvard Professor Donna Hick’s writes “if indignity tears us apart, dignity can put us together again.”
