Closing the Circle

As you may remember, in 2016 the Lakota Oyate people of South Dakota welcomed the entire camp of humanity to the Standing Rock as relatives and over 5,000 came, including many UUs. At the General Assembly that year we passed an Action of Immediate Witness promising solidarity forever. This year, as we mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of colonizers which resulted in the enslavement, forced removal and genocide of millions of Indigenous people, we ask: “Have we, as religious descendants of these colonizers, done our best as relatives to repond to those who have extended that hand of relationship to us which is such a great honor? Have we done enough to restore the circle?
