The Harvard UU Church Choir will present the Spring 2019 Music Sunday next week, May 12 during the regular Sunday Service. This year we’ve chosen to present Frostiana, Seven Country Songs, based on music by Randall Thompson with words by Robert Frost. During the service the choir will sing five of the songs and two will be recited as poems.
Thompson was commissioned by the town of Amherst to write a piece for its bicentennial in 1959. Frost and Thompson had admired each other’s work for some time and it was decided that Thompson would set some of Frost’s writings to music. The lyrics are set to the following Frost poems: The Road Not Taken, The Pasture, Come In, The Telephone, A Girls Garden, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and Choose Something Like a Star. In the service, the choir will sing five of the songs, and two will be read as part of the spoken word. Flautist Claire Rindenello will join us along with our wonderful accompanist Marsha Martin to help bring all of this to life.
Please join us on Sunday May 12 – a musical gift to Moms – for this delightful and moving service of music and the spoken word.
