UU Youth for Social Justice

The Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church Faith Formation Program will be hosting a UU Youth Social Justice Conference on February 3-4, 2017, 5 pm – 8 am. Youth groups from all over the New England Region are invited to attend and participate. This will be a youth-run conference, with participating youth groups presenting at least one 45-50 minute session on a social justice action they are currently involved in or wish to be involved in. Breakfast, dinner and snacks will be provided. The deadline for registrations is January 20, 2017.

Please download the registration forms below and send to the address indicated.
Register for the conference at EventBright.

For more information, please contact Daniel Payne, Director of Faith Formation, at dff@uuharvard.org

If you and your youth are interested in attending, please read below for important information about preparation and registration.

All adult youth advisors attending the UU Youth for Social Justice 2017 Conference must agree to abide by the Participant Covenant for UUA Youth Events below. Please read through and sign the covenant, and return it to Daniel Payne at Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church by January 20, 2017, along with all required advisor and youth registration documents.

Adult youth advisors attending the conference must watch the two videos below before attending the conference:

It is a good idea to watch these videos in a small group, or with your Director of Religious Education (if possible). Please confirm that you have watched the videos on the Youth Advisor Registration Form.

In addition, I ask each attending youth advisor/DRE to take at least one task listed on the Advisor Registration Form. It is important for everyone to be involved in the organization and implementation of this conference.

Finally, please give a brief introduction and explanation of the workshop/session your youth plan to present at the conference. Each participating youth group is expected to present at least one workshop/session on social justice work that (1) they are currently doing, or (2) that they are interested in doing. Each workshop/session will need to be between 30-45 minutes in length. Groups may present more than one workshop/session if they choose. There is a space to add this information on the Advisor Registration Form.

Please ensure your Advisor Registration and all youth registration forms are submitted by January 20, 2017.

CORI

Lastly, Harvard UU has a CORI policy. All adult advisors working with children and youth must submit a CORI check. This is not a complicated process, and something Harvard will take care of for free.

All you need to do is submit the attached CORI form with your Advisor Registration forms, and we’ll run the CORI before the UU Youth Social Justice 2017 Conference. All results are kept strictly confidential, even if there is a result that might prevent an advisor from attending.

I am excited about this conference, and am looking forward to seeing you all with your youth on February 3-4! Don’t hesitate to contact me for further information, and forward this information to any churches in the New England Region you think might be interested. Space is limited, so registration sooner is better.

Peace,

Daniel Payne
