On the Wing presents an opportunity for the Harvard-based UU community to maintain a connection to recent UU High School Youth Group graduates. “Care packages” are sent on an intermittent basis to HSYG graduates to college mail rooms, or for those not embarking on college, their new away-from-home work and living situation. Care packages will include snacks, school supplies,UU and Harvard memorabilia, as well as the Chalice Chat and Worship Service programs and hopefully, notes and well-wishes from members of the congregation. The project is the brainchild of our former Director of Religious Education, Pam Reidy. Similar programs happen at other churches throughout the country.

The program is named for the experience of taking flight from the Harvard UU community to soar at great heights in school or work communities, where ever in the world they may be. We recognize that these flights are filled with curiosity and joy—and also that panicky fear of heights and flying through storms. As a congregation, we want to continue to support our youth on that journey.

For the 2016-2017 academic year the program is being coordinated by various congregation members and the Director of Religious Education, Daniel Payne. This year we have chosen to support 2016, 2015 and 2014 High School Graduates from our Youth Programs. Funding is available through the FF budget as well as individual donations.
