Winter is the time for story telling! In this facilitated workshop, we’ll bring to life the Shawnee story of Sawage — the grandmother associated with the south wind. First, we’ll start with a brief introduction to the Shawnee and to storytelling in general, followed by a dramatic reading of the myth.
Next, we’ll use a combination of techniques to uncover the multiple layers hidden within our story. Exploratory techniques include dream analysis, dramatic and literary analysis, exegesis, drawings of the plot action, and more. We’ll supplement our detective work with clues (or are they red herrings?) from ethnographic sources and astronomical and seasonal observations. Can you help discover the meaning of the frozen men by night’s end, or will their fate remain a mystery? Join us and find out! Friday, 2 February, 7:00-9:00 PM, Charlanne Van Wormer Room, FB.
