October 19, 2010

Our Board meetings are full to overflowing (read: running overtime). Discussions on visioning, rental guidelines
and our goals are very absorbing.

Here are the Board Goals for 2010-2011. We have worked hard to make them “SMART” goals; specific/measurable/actionable/realistic/time-bound.

Board Goals for 2010-2011:

  • Finalize the Vision Statement by April 30, 2011, with input from a majority of the congregation.
  • Develop a 3-5 year strategic plan based on the new Vision Statement.
  • Balance the church budget.
  • Implement one or more ways of making the new Fellowship Building a valued resource for the community and a source of funds for the church.

As you can see, we have our work cut out for us. You will be hearing a lot more about visioning and strategic plans over the next few months. Setting priorities for the future will be more straightforward when our visioning process is
complete and the church has a vision statement and a 3-5 year strategic plan. We hope you will participate in this
important process; please help us achieve our goals!

This month the Board will be focusing on rental guidelines. With the completion of the new Fellowship
Building we need to update our rates and evaluate the existing policy. What do other churches charge for their rentals? Do we want to make the facility available at minimal cost or do we need to make as much money as possible from the rentals? Do church members, non-profits, community organizations, etc. get special rates? As you see above, making the “Fellowship Building a valued resource for the community and a source of funds for the church” is one of our goals.

Elsewhere in this Belfry you will read about the grant that the Glean Team is applying for; a project unanimously supported by the Board. The annual stewardship campaign will be launched this month with a wonderful theme of “Affirming Our Connections”. There will be an opportunity to gather with your neighbors to learn about the process of moving the collection buckets through your area quickly. With your help we can finish the drive in record time. Your wholehearted and generous support for this campaign makes our church community and our work in the greater world possible.

With gratitude, Cary Browse for the Board:
